Please Don’t Read Unless You Have Watched The First Three Seasons. There Will Be Spoilers.
Mekaael: On June 5th 2020 Netflix released the final season of hit TV show 13 Reason Why. The show follows a group of friends as they get through their highschool journey. Through this journey they overcome countless obstacles similarly faced by teens in society today. The story picks up in a haste with Justin coming back from rehab after the Jensen family found out about his Heroin Addiction and Tyler getting called into the Police station to get investigated for the bag of guns found in the lake which he had thrown there after the Winter Dance in the previous season. The story surrounds a young high school student, Clay Jensen who has faced various challenges throughout his first three years of high school, with the suicide of his first true love, Hannah Baker, the murder of one of his class mates, Bryce Walker who was a rapist and the imprisonment and murder of another one of his classmates Montgomery De La Cruiz, who was a sex offender. If you haven’t realized yet, this is a very intense and gruesome TV show that many people aren’t able to watch all of, so just a disclaimer if you aren’t particularly interested or a fan of very intense TV shows then I wouldn’t suggest it. Conversely, if you are a fan of high intensity and somewhat disturbing TV shows then go for it.
This season continues to have the plot jumping all over the place with romance occurring and new characters being introduced into the series. This season is truly hard to keep up with and if I were to write about everything that happened, it would be a waste of both of our time, and instead if high intensity TV shows are something you are interested in, then I would definitely recommend watching this.
One main recurring theme that is shown throughout this season is Clay’s constant battle with mental health issues. His therapist told him that he was battling schizophrenia and he was constantly picturing and seeing Monty and Hannah throughout the season and would have full conversations and arguments with them. On top of that he would have various nightmares which would prevent him from sleeping. Clay would also have various panic attacks throughout the season and on top of that would have somewhat of a bipolar disorder where he would act out of character, for example vandalizing the school, pretending he had a gun at the police station, etc.. On top of that, he mentions that he suffers from anxiety and depression during his graduation speech. As you can tell, this season has already taken a jump in seriousness from the initial season of Hannah Baker’s suicide, to Bryce Walkers rape cases and murder. This season is full of deaths, heartbreak, love and a full rollercoaster of emotions.
This final season of 13 Reasons Why was extremely action packed, to the point where I could be here for days talking about it but, I think that I’ll keep this one a bit shorter. The entire season is extremely action packed and is on the gas 100% of the time. From fake school shooters, to the deaths of loved ones, to mental illnesses, the season was initially all over the place and had my heart rate too fast, but truly everything comes together at the end which is why I would give this season an 8/10 rather than a 7/10 which I Initially wanted to until I watched the last three episodes when the intensity slows down and although there are parts which are very saddening, everything comes together towards the end. If you have already watched the first three seasons, I would definitely recommend watching this final season as it puts all the puzzle pieces together, finally.
